NORTH KOREA SAYS SANCTIONS DID NOT PUSH US TALKS

North Korean state media has said it was “self-confidence” and not sanctions that drove it to seek talks with South Korea and the US.

This comes in the first state-media response from Pyongyang since US President Donald Trump accepted an invitation to meet its leader Kim Jong-un.

It went on to call out “small-minded” critics who questioned its motives.

However, if it pulls through, the talks will be the first ever face-to-face meeting between sitting leaders of North Korea and the US.
