NIGERIA SPENDS 1 BILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY ON FISH IMPORTATION

The Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine
Research has disclosed that Nigeria spends about 1 billion
dollars annually on the importation of fish.
Director of the Institute, Dr. Adekunle Oresegun, who disclosed
this in Abakaliki, noted that Nigeria has great potentials for fish
production, which if harnessed properly, would save the
country about 1 billion dollars expended on fish importation.

Oresegun further called on the Federal government to create
enabling environment that will make fish production popular in
Nigeria.
